Protocols to Protect Taxpayer Investment for Corpus Christi Streets

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – Corpus Christi City Council voted to approve recommended updates to City ordinances related to streets, driveways, and sidewalks.

The Department of Public Works will now oversee the repairs made to City streets and right of way to accommodate existing and new development. This update will provide better coordination between the City and the development community while assuring the community's investment in its infrastructure is protected.

The amendments include requiring higher standards for resurfacing new streets cut for utility tie-ins by the private sector, requiring improved coordination and notification for projects in the right-of-way, and implementing driveway, sidewalk, curb, and gutter permitting requirements to ensure conformance to City standards.

Increasing requirements for new construction and street repairs will increase the longevity of City streets and protect taxpayer investment.

“As stewards of our city's infrastructure, we prioritize the longevity of our streets and the use by the traveling public,” Mayor Guajardo said. “Today's approval of updated ordinances signifies our commitment to enhancing coordination, protecting investments, and ensuring higher street construction and reconstruction standards.”
