Border Patrol Agents Rescue Eight Trapped in Rail Car

DEL RIO, TEXAS (News Release) - U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Sector rescued eight individuals locked inside a train car. On the afternoon of Aug. 30, agents assigned to the Uvalde Border Patrol Station were conducting train inspection duties on a rail siding near Knippa when a Border Patrol canine alerted to a stationary autorack freight car carrying automobiles. Agents inspected the freight car and discovered eight individuals, including one child, locked inside with no means of escape.

These individuals, consisting of three Mexican nationals, three Salvadorans, one Guatemalan and one Chinese national, were medically assessed and transported to the Uvalde Station for processing.

“Alien smugglers have no regard for those they prey upon,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Anthony “Scott” Good. “Temperatures in this area exceed 100 degrees daily. Were it not for the actions of our highly trained agents, this situation could have had a tragic outcome.”

The U.S. Border Patrol urges anyone in distress to call 911 immediately. Extreme heat, limited water, and confined spaces quickly become -threatening. Smugglers don’t care about safety or the lives of those they exploit.
