Alice PD Reminds Residents That Mini Bikes are not Permitted on City Streets
Alice Police Department
ALICE, TEXAS (News Release) - The Alice Police Department is reminding residents that mini bikes are not permitted on city streets, sidewalks, walking trails, bike paths, or the municipal golf course following an increase in complaints and sightings throughout the city.
While mini bikes are designed for off-road recreational use, they do not meet the safety requirements required for legal roadway operation. These vehicles lack federally required equipment and safety standards necessary for use on public streets.
THE LAW
Mini bikes are prohibited from operating on:
City streets
Sidewalks
Walking trails
Bike paths
Public municipal golf course property
Even when modified with headlights, tail lights, turn signals, mirrors, or so-called “street legal” kits, mini bikes remain illegal to operate on public roadways and other restricted public areas.
ENFORCEMENT NOTICE
The Alice Police Department is actively monitoring for illegal mini bike operation and will continue enforcement efforts to protect both riders and motorists.
Residents are advised of the following:
Zero Tolerance Enforcement: Any mini bike found operating illegally on public streets or prohibited public property may be impounded immediately.
Towing and Storage Fees: Owners will be responsible for all towing expenses and daily storage fees associated with recovering the vehicle.
Citations and Fines: Operators, or parents and guardians of minors, may face citations and substantial fines for violations.
IMPORTANT REMINDER
Adding aftermarket equipment or “street legal” accessories does not make a mini bike lawful for operation on public streets or sidewalks. Modifications will not prevent enforcement action or impoundment.
The Alice Police Department encourages residents to help keep neighborhoods safe by limiting mini bike use to private property or designated off-road riding areas.
