Train Derailment in Gregory

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — (News Release) The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) has reported a train derailment with hazardous materials (HazMat) in Gregory, a city in San Patricio County. Four railcars, each containing 90 tons of vinyl chloride, have derailed. No injuries or leaks have been reported.
The train was traveling slowly when four cars tipped off the rails.
Initial evacuations included 19 people from one residence and one business. The American Red Cross has been notified, in case shelter is needed.
Responding agencies include Gregory Police Department (GPD), Gregory Fire Department (GFD), San Patricio County Office of Emergency Management (OEM), Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS), Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), and San Patricio CLO | Bee CLO.
Union Pacific is in route to restore the railway system and safely unload the product. At this time, there is no threat to life or the environment.
The City of Corpus Christi’s Office of Emergency Management will continue to monitor the situation.
