Temporary Closure of Watergarden Fountain

Corpus Christi, TEXAS (News Release) - The Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department announces the temporary closure of the Watergarden fountain, located at 1901 N. Shoreline, for planned preventative maintenance. The work will take place starting Sunday, August 2, through Friday, August 7, weather permitting. This maintenance work will protect the Watergarden's structure, improve operational reliability, and reduce long-term maintenance costs.

The work includes applying a new plaster finish over the existing surface to create a continuous protective layer for the upper trough.

The contractor handling the project, Fulton Construction, has scheduled the work for next week and requires that the pumping mechanisms be shut off and the water be completely drained this weekend to ensure the necessary components are dry before the repairs begin.

Once the repairs are completed at the end of next week, the Watergarden will need to be refilled with 43,000 gallons of water, as leaving it dry can harm the mechanical components. Because the public comes into contact with the water, recycled effluent cannot be used.

Before this maintenance, the water was turned down to the lowest pressure at which it would still run due to the current drought. Since December 2024, the Watergarden has operated using a single pump for circulation, and the water has been treated with an evaporation inhibitor to minimize water usage.
