Teen Killed in Early Morning Boating Collision

KLEBERG COUNTY, TEXAS (News Release) - A 16-year-old boy was killed Friday morning after two boats collided near the Bird Island Basin boat ramp on the Laguna Madre, according to Texas Game Wardens.

The collision occurred at approximately 6:15 am on July 25. Texas Game Wardens from Nueces and Kleberg counties responded to the scene after receiving reports of the crash.

Authorities said a jon boat carrying three people collided with a center-console boat. The impact ejected the 16-year-old passenger from the jon boat. He died as a result of his injuries.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

The Texas Game Warden Boat Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the cause of the collision. Officials said the investigation remains active, and no additional information is being released at this time.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department expressed its condolences to the victim's family and thanked the agencies that assisted with the response, including the Kleberg County Sheriff's Office, Padre Island National Seashore Rangers, Corpus Christi Police Department, Corpus Christi Fire Department, and the U.S. Border Patrol.
