TAMUK to offer Emergency Relief Funds for Students

KINGSVILLE (News Release) - In a continuing effort to remove financial barriers for current students, Texas A&M-Kingsville has received additional federal support from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF III) through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. These funds will become available beginning fall 2021. They will be utilized for any component of a student’s cost of attendance or emergency costs due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including tuition, food, housing, health and mental health care and child care.
“We understand that our students are facing diverse sets of challenges as a result of the pandemic,” said Texas A&M-Kingsville President Dr. Mark A. Hussey. “It is in keeping with our long-standing tradition of student support and educational opportunity to help defray the costs that may impede a students’ ability to realize their dreams of a college education.”
All enrolled students, including international and DACA students, are encouraged to apply and may be eligible for up to $1,500 in emergency grant funding. As per HEERF regulations, priority must be given to students with exceptional need, such as students who receive Pell Grants.
Students can apply online on the Main Menu of their Blue and Gold Account under the HEERF III Emergency Grant Application (COVID-19) beginning Tuesday, August 17, 2021. The application will only be available for three weeks and students will be notified of the status of their application through their university email within 30 days of their submission.
Texas A&M-Kingsville has provided Emergency Financial Aid Grant assistance to 5,541 students, exceeding $7 million of total aid through the Javelina Rebound and HEERF programming.
“Our students have endured much during the last 18 months, balancing family responsibilities, work, and school,” said Vice President of Enrollment Services and Student Affairs Dr. Rito Silva. “Texas A&M-Kingsville is proud to be able to provide financial assistance to our students, leaving them with one less thing to worry about it. We want students to start the fall semester on the right note, and these grants will help students concentrate on their success.”
