ROCKPORT, TEXAS (News Release) - On January 10, 2026, a stolen vehicle pursuit early Saturday morning ended with the arrest of a 15-year-old juvenile after a crash in a residential area, according to the Rockport Police Department.
At approximately 2:24 a.m., Rockport police officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe after observing the vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign in the 1800 block of Harbor Drive. The driver accelerated southbound on SH-35 Business North at a high rate of speed and refused to yield to emergency lights and sirens.
Officers pursued the vehicle through multiple residential streets in central Rockport before it re-entered SH-35 Business North and continued southbound. The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed on Portia Avenue.
Officers contacted the driver and requested medical assistance. The driver was later identified as a 15-year-old juvenile male, who was treated for minor injuries at Rockport 24/7 ER before being transported to the juvenile detention facility in Sinton.
Investigators determined the Chevrolet Tahoe had been reported stolen from the 100 block of Cherry Hills. The juvenile faces charges of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Evading Arrest or Detention with a Motor Vehicle. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
No officers or civilians were injured during the incident. Police also reported discovering an unsecured firearm inside the vehicle.
The Rockport Police Department emphasized the seriousness of the incident, noting the dangers posed by high-speed pursuits involving untrained juvenile drivers in residential neighborhoods. Authorities are urging residents to lock their vehicles and never leave firearms unsecured or inside vehicles.
