Tips on Protecting Pets During the Inclement Weather
Press Release
CORPUS CHRISTI – Residents are urged to take their pets inside where they can keep warm and safe from the bitter cold elements.
Windchill can threaten a pet’s life. Exposed skin on noses, ears and paw pads are at risk for hypothermia. Bundle up your pets with a sweater if you plan on taking them outside for any length of time.
A City of Corpus Christi Ordinance requires owners to provide necessary shelter and protection from the weather. Corpus Christi Animal Care Services (CCACS) will have Officers responding to calls of pets without adequate shelter.
CCACS will have Officers responding to calls of pets without shelter and will be educating their owners on how to properly care for their pets during inclement weather. If the animal’s wellbeing is in jeopardy, Animal Care Officers may issue citations with fines up to $200.
If you know of an animal in need, please call 361-826-2489 to place a call for service for an officer to respond. For overnight cases, call the police department’s non-emergency number 361-886-2600.
