Patient Steals Ambulance at Bay Area Hospital

 

Nueces County Precinct Five Constable

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (News Release) - On Friday, July 19, 2024, an alleged patient at Bay Area Hospital, jumped into the driver seat of an ambulance and took off.

Corpus Christi police located the vehicle minutes later on South Padre Island Drive and monitored his direction of travel. Deputies with Constable Precinct 5 and Department of Public Safety (DPS) units assisted.

After a few minutes of a slow pursuit, the male driver pulled into the Shoreline Hospital parking lot.

The male driver who was not identified, was taken into custody by DPS. It is not known if any charges will be brought against the man for the unauthorized use of a emergency vehicle.

During the one-hour ride, the male driver managed to use the ambulance’s emergency lights.
