Nueces County Commissioners Vote to Approve City-Operated Health District

CORPUS CHRISTI - (News Release) During a special meeting on February 14th of the Nueces County Commissioners Court, the County Commissioners voted 4 to 1 on a new business model for the Health District giving sole management authority to the City of Corpus Christi.

Last week, the City Council adjusted the new business model and partnership agreement. February 15th, Mayor Paulette M. Guajardo and Council Members will be briefed on the final agreement during their regularly scheduled council meeting. A signing ceremony between the City Council and County Commissioners is expected to be held this week.

Residents of the City of Corpus Christi and Nueces County will not experience any interruption in service. The new agreement enables the City of Corpus Christi to implement a new business model and best practice approaches to strengthen and improve public health outcomes for our community that will:

  • Provide improved and effective health services with more accountability and efficient use of taxpayer dollars

  • Provide residents more and better access to public health services and enhance performance accountability

  • Significantly enhance the City’s health awareness, health initiatives, and health programs

  • Become a leader in providing public health services for the 8th largest city in Texas
