CORPUS CHRISTI – (News Release) The City of Corpus Christi’s Public Works Department recently installed a new crosswalk on Staples Street between Gollihar Road and Carmel Parkway. This pedestrian crossing was established to address safety concerns as the area is serviced by two transit stops.

The safety features include: a high visibility midblock crosswalk, concrete pedestrian refuge, curb ramps, advanced warning signs, rumble strips, pavement markings, and pedestrian signs equipped with push buttons that will activate an LED Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) to gain driver awareness of a potential crossing.

This installation is one of several safety enhancements projects for the City’s Vision Zero Program. Vision Zero, championed by District 2 Councilmember Ben Molina, is committed to making our community a safer place to live and play. “This is just one more step towards our Vision Zero goal to make our streets safer for all citizens,” Molina said. “Such traffic calming measures are crucial to slowing down drivers and alerting them to pedestrians, especially on busy streets where there is a mix of people driving, walking and biking.”
