KINGSVILLE (News Release) – This morning in Mobile, Alabama, Kingsville Mayor Sam Fugate and City Manager Mark McLaughlin attended the keel laying ceremony for the USS Kingsville.

In 2019, Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Spencer announced the naming of the next Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ship - USS Kingsville (LCS 36). The future USS Kingsville (LCS 36) is named in honor of Kingsville, TX and is the first ship to bear the name.

“It is an honor for Kingsville to be recognized in this way.” said Kingsville Mayor Sam Fugate. “The City of Kingsville, including its residents, has always had a positive and supportive relationship with the Navy. This recognition symbolizes how hard we have worked to strengthen that relationship and how much more work is needed to continue to support existing and future military missions in Kingsville”.

The USS Kingsville is expected to be Christened in 11 months and Commissioning is set for Spring 2024.

The future USS Kingsville will be built by Austal USA in Mobile, Ala. This ship will be 419 feet long with a beam length of 104 feet and be capable of operating at speeds in excess of 40 knots.

The LCS is a highly maneuverable, lethal and adaptable ship, designed to support focused mine countermeasures, anti-submarine warfare and surface warfare missions. LCS integrates new technology and capability to affordably support current and future mission capability from deep water to the littorals.
