Ingleside Peace Officer Indicted on Official Oppression Charge

INGLESIDE, TEXAS (News Release) - An Ingleside Police Department Peace officer has been indicted by a San Patricio County grand jury on a charge of official oppression, according to a press release issued by the department Friday.

The department said Peace Officer Samuel Hernandez was indicted on July 30, 2026, on one count of official oppression. The indictment was returned following grand jury proceedings conducted at the San Patricio County Courthouse.

In its statement, the Ingleside Police Department emphasized that an indictment is a formal accusation and is not evidence of guilt.

"As with all criminal defendants, Officer Hernandez is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law," the department stated.

Because the case is now pending before the court, the department said it will not comment on the allegations, the evidence, or any aspect of the ongoing criminal proceedings. The agency also noted that certain personnel and investigative records may be confidential or exempt from public disclosure under the Texas Public Information Act and other applicable laws.

The department said it remains committed to maintaining the public's confidence through professionalism, accountability, and adherence to the rule of law. Officials added that any administrative or employment matters related to the case will be handled in accordance with applicable laws, department policy, and due process requirements.

Police Chief Martin C. Molina said no additional information will be released at this time.
