ICE Conducts Raid on Contractor at Texas A&M University-Kingsville Campus

“At approximately 7 a.m. Thursday, federal agents were present on campus this morning related to an investigation of general laborers currently working on the Memorial Student Union remediation project. University Police Department officials were on site to ensure campus security throughout the investigation. 

It is important to note that no Texas A&M-Kingsville employees or students were involved in the investigation. Authorities cleared campus by 9 a.m. 

Initially, officials detained twenty-six individuals for additional screening. The contractor reports that they anticipate all 26 individuals will return to the campus work site by the end of the day. The company is called Cotton Commercial, and they were hired to do emergency remediation after a fire in the Memorial Student Union Building.”

KINGSVILLE, TEXAS — At approximately 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted a raid at the job site of a contracting company working on restoration efforts at Texas A&M University-Kingsville’s Memorial Student Union Building.

The raid was first reported by The South Texan, the university’s student-run campus newspaper. Reporter Shawn Charles stated that the company had roughly 70 workers present during the time of the operation. Witnesses reported seeing approximately 30 individuals taken into custody by ICE.

The contractors were working on restoration and construction to repair the Memorial Student Union Building, which sustained fire damage last month.

South Texas Community News reached out to Texas A&M University-Kingsville for comment. A university representative responded that an official press release addressing the incident will be issued shortly to provide updates to the community.
