Honduran National Found in Medical Distress by Kingsville Border Patrol

KINGSVILLE (News Release) On Oct. 6, 2021, at approximately 11:24 p.m., personnel at the U.S. Border Patrol station in Kingsville were contacted by an anonymous caller who reported an individual lying in a field who may have been bitten by a spider. The caller provided GPS coordinates for the individual’s location. Border Patrol Agents responded to the area in search of the individual. On Oct. 7, 2021, at approximately 12:50 a.m., Border Patrol Agents located an unresponsive citizen of Honduras. Border Patrol Agents immediately requested Emergency Medical Technicians and Emergency Medical Services.

Border Patrol Agents subsequently transported the man approximately seven miles in a Border Patrol vehicle to a gate at the intersection of Marana Camp Road and U.S. Highway 77, where they met medical personnel from Willacy County EMS. Medical personnel began treating the man, who was later transported via air ambulance to the Christus Spohn Hospital – Shoreline, in Corpus Christi.
The man was admitted into the hospital under U.S. Customs and Border Protection watch and was treated for liver and kidney failure. On Oct. 11, 2021, the man succumbed to his ailments and was declared deceased by medical staff.
This incident is being investigated by the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office and is being reviewed by the CBP Office of Professional Responsibility. The Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General was also notified.
