Governor Presents two CCPD Families with the Star of Texas Award

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS - (News Release) On September 11, 2024, Texas Governor Greg Abbott presented to the families of Corpus Christi Police Officers, Senior Officer Vicente Ortiz and Officer Kyle Hicks the Star of Texas Award. Both officers lost their lives in the line of duty serving the citizens of Corpus Christi.

This award was established in 2003 under House Bill 1937, the Star of Texas Awards honors and commemorates individuals who made profound commitments while performing their duties as peace officers, firefighters, and emergency medical first responders. HB 1937 also designated September 11th of every year as Texas First Responders Day.
