CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (News Release) – The Corpus Christi City Council approved the acquisition of 72 vehicles. Of these, 51 vehicles will replace existing units, while 21 additional units will be allocated to various City departments.

The total expenditure for this acquisition amounts to $10,757,774. All 72 vehicles were approved as part of the FY 2025 Budget process.

The City’s vehicle procurement process uses all available resources to ensure that vehicles and equipment are sourced and delivered promptly while using budget-conscious strategies.

“Ensuring our city departments have the necessary resources to serve our residents efficiently is a top priority,” said Mayor Paulette Guajardo. “By approving the replacement and addition of vehicles, we are investing in the reliability and effectiveness of our public services, from public safety to infrastructure maintenance. This decision reflects our commitment to keeping Corpus Christi moving forward with modern, dependable equipment.”

"Investing in reliable vehicles is about efficiency, fiscal responsibility, and operational readiness. Aging, unreliable fleet units drive up maintenance costs, disrupt critical city services, and reduce workforce productivity,” Juan Rivera, Interim Director of Asset Management, said. “Every breakdown means lost man-hours, delayed responses, and increased repair expenses. This strategic investment ensures our departments remain fully operational, reduces long-term costs, and enhances service delivery for our residents.”
