Corpus Christi Residents Receive Natural Gas Infrastructure Grant

City of Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – The Corpus Christi City Council accepted a $4.2 million infrastructure grant to upgrade aging gas lines with modern polyethylene (poly) technology, boosting energy reliability for residents.

This grant will provide funding for replacing 5.22 miles of steel gas lines on Kostoryz Road over an 18-month period. The pipelines being targeted for replacement do not have existing leaks but have been identified as the highest priority for replacement based on age and condition.

The transition to polyethylene offers several benefits, including:

  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions due to faster leak repairs

  • Durability, with fewer maintenance needs and a longer lifespan

  • Enhanced safety, meeting current standards

The construction project is anticipated to be completed by March 2028.

“This grant is a significant investment in the future of Corpus Christi, ensuring that our natural gas distribution infrastructure remains safe, reliable, and resilient,” said Mayor Paulette Guajardo. “As we continue to grow, these improvements will support economic development, enhance energy efficiency, and provide long-term benefits for our residents and businesses.”

“This investment will not only improve safety and reliability but also generate long-term cost savings for the city and residents.” Bill Mahaffey, Director of CCGAS
