BISHOP, TEXAS (News Release) - On the night of May 8, 2025, severe thunderstorms swept through Nueces County, prompting a large-scale emergency response from multiple agencies. Around 10 p.m., deputies from Nueces County Constables Precincts 2, 3, and 5, along with the Nueces County Sheriff’s Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, and fire and EMS personnel from Nueces County ESDs 3, 4, and 6, the Annaville Fire Department, and Kleberg County Fire Department, responded to a series of traffic accidents and storm-related emergencies across the region.

High winds overturned approximately five tractor trailers along US Highway 77 between Driscoll and Bishop, while several smaller vehicle crashes occurred in the same area. Two drivers of 18-wheelers sustained minor injuries and were transported by ambulance to local hospitals.
Simultaneously, emergency crews responded to storm damage in the Petronila area, where several mobile homes were reported overturned or severely damaged. Minor injuries were reported, but no fatalities or major injuries have been confirmed at this time.
