Dr. Bart Ballard Receives Title of Regents Professor
Texas A&M University-Kingsville
KINGSVILLE (News Release) - Texas A&M University System Regents named Dr. Bart Ballard, professor at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, a Regents Professor for 2022-2023.
“I am honored and humbled to receive such a prestigious award and be included in the group of past recipients,” Ballard said. “It is fulfilling to know that my teaching, research, and service have been acknowledged with such accolades.”
Ballard is the department chair of Rangeland and Wildlife Sciences in the Dick and Mary Lewis Kleberg College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. He teaches and conducts research on the ecology and management of birds with a focus on waterfowl and other waterbirds.
As part of the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute, Ballard holds the C. Berdon and Rolanette Lawrence Endowed Chair in Waterfowl Research and directs the Waterfowl and Wetland Birds Research Program.
Twelve Texas A&M University System faculty members were named as Regents Professors and 11 agency service, extension or research professionals were named Regents Fellows for 2022-2023.
The Texas A&M University System Regents established the Regents Professor Awards program in 1996 to recognize faculty and employees who have made extraordinary contributions to their university, or agency, as well as to the people of Texas.
The selection process begins with a call for nominations from the system chancellor. Final nominations are submitted to the chief executive officer of each respective entity. They are then subject to a system-level review consisting of academic vice chancellors and past recipients of the awards. Finally, nominations are forwarded to the chancellor and the board for final approval.
To date, 291 Texas A&M System faculty members have been recognized with the Regents Professor Award and 175 agency professionals have received the Regents Fellow Service Award.
