DMC Faculty Art Show Features Nearly 50 Dynamic Works

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (News Release) - For Del Mar College (DMC) Art Program faculty, they not only teach art but also live it through their own chosen mediums and creativity. Some of the finest artwork produced in Corpus Christi comes from DMC’s faculty with the Art & Drama Department, and this Friday, Sept. 18, art aficionados can view their work during a free opening reception for the program’s fall exhibit in Cain Gallery––the “Del Mar Art Faculty Art Show.”

“It's a real privilege to work alongside faculty who are not only excellent educators but also professional artists in their own right,” said Elena Rodriguez, assistant professor of art and the department’s gallery coordinator. “This exhibition really honors and celebrates the success of our talented faculty.”

Some of Rodriguez’s own oil paintings are among nearly 50 pieces making up the exhibit, which features prints, drawings, photos, ceramics, sculptures and paintings created by the department’s nine faculty members.

The Sept. 18 reception runs 6 to 8 p.m. in the Joseph A. Cain Memorial Art Gallery located on the first floor of the Fine Arts Center on Windward Campus (101 Baldwin Blvd., 78404). Get online directions and a campus map. The free event includes hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.

Visitors can experience the dynamic work of Loring Baker, Kalleen Chilcote, Kerstin Dale, Nate Ditzler, David Fuentes, Amorette Garza-Morales, Diana Peña, Elena “Rodz” Rodriguez and Mike Stephens. Several pieces among faculty members’ work will be available for purchase during the opening reception and throughout the show for patrons wanting to add to their own art collections.

The free exhibit runs through Wednesday, Nov. 18. Public viewing is Mondays through Thursdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and by appointment on Fridays. 

Rodriguez added, “I hope the community comes out to see the show and join us for the opening reception. It’s going to be a fun evening, and it’s a great opportunity to see the work our faculty are creating outside of the classroom.”
