City of Corpus Christi Looks to Further Cooperative Efforts on Regional Water Supply

City of Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (News Release) - The City of Corpus Christi has made the decision to not protest the production and drilling permits recently submitted to the San Patricio Groundwater Conservation District by Somerset Land Company LLC. Somerset Land Company is primarily responsible for developing the recent land annexed into the City of Sinton.

The decision not to protest aligns with the City’s goal to work together with the City of Sinton, Saint Paul Water Supply Corporation, and other concerned parties to reach an agreement that will allow the Evangeline groundwater project to move ahead.

The City of Corpus Christi is confident in the hydrogeologic analysis for the Evangeline well field, which shows there will be no negative effects on nearby wells. This includes wells operated by the City of Sinton, the Saint Paul Water Supply Corporation, and area irrigators. Based on this analysis, the City believes that issuing a permit for one new well, expected to produce about 1.2 million gallons of water each day, will not harm the Evangeline and Li Ranch Well Fields.

The City is working to finalize an agreement with the City of Sinton for the Evangeline Water Supply Project, which is essential for providing future water to residents in San Patricio County through Corpus Christi Water. Additionally, the City plans to collaborate more closely with the San Patricio Groundwater Conservation District to share information, monitor water sources, and assess the condition of underground aquifers now and in the future.
