City of Corpus Christi Approves Funding for Additional Police Equipment

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (News Release) – At Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting, the City Council of Corpus Christi approved funding to improve the Corpus Christi Police Department's (CCPD) services and equipment.
The funds were approved as follows:
$186,309 from the Department of Justice for tasers, supplies, software licenses, and training.
$39,993 from the State of Texas Criminal Justice Division to purchase in-car video systems
$35,339 from the State of Texas Criminal Justice Division for 70 body-worn cameras and related equipment. With this grant, CCPD will have a total inventory of 450 cameras.
CCPD’s long-term goal is to issue every sworn officer their own body-worn camera, not just the sworn officers who engage in fieldwork.
"We are grateful for these grants that will allow us to better equip our police department,” Corpus Christi Police Department Chief Mike Markle said. “These resources are vital in ensuring that our officers have the tools they need to serve and protect our community effectively. Together, we are building a safer environment for everyone."
