CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – At Tuesday’s February 8 regularly scheduled Council meeting, the Corpus Christi City Council approved a resolution adopting criteria for use in the 2022 redistricting process. Redistricting is the process of drawing the lines of districts from which council members are elected. It ensures that each district has roughly an equal number of people. It is required by law, and it takes place every 10 years after the Census. Redistricting is important because it impacts how neighborhoods and communities will be represented on the City Council. The Corpus Christi City Council currently has five single-member districts, three at-large members, and one mayor elected at-large.

To ensure citizens’ voices are heard in the redistricting process, the Council approved a schedule of community input sessions to be held February 22 – March 8, 2022. Five district meetings and two general sessions will be held as follows:

Tuesday, February 22: General Session – HYBRID (In-Person & Virtual); City Council Chambers, 1201 Leopard Street

Wednesday, February 23: District 2 – IN-PERSON; Lindale Senior Center, 3135 Swantner

Thursday, February 24: District 1 – IN-PERSON; Owen R. Hopkins Public Library, 3202 McKinzie Road

Monday, February 28: District 5 – IN-PERSON; Veterans Memorial School, Teaching Theater, 3750 Cimarron Blvd.

Wednesday, March 2: District 4 – IN-PERSON; Ethel Eyerly Senior Center, 654 Graham Road

Thursday, March 3: District 3– IN-PERSON; Water Utilities Bldg., Choke Canyon Room, 2726 Holly Rd.

Tuesday, March 8

General Session – HYBRID (In-Person & Virtual); City Council Chambers, 1201 Leopard St.

“Community input in this process is critical.  Today we have approved a plan that will include robust community outreach and involvement” said Mayor Paulette Guajardo. “I encourage residents to engage in this process by attending meetings or providing written feedback.”
