City Council Approves Creation of Local Preference Policy

City Council Approves Creation of Local Preference Policy

City of Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – City Council approved an ordinance adopting a policy to provide local preference to the procurement of professional services. The ordinance was adopted on its second reading.

This ordinance will provide a local preference policy consistent with the Council’s goal of promoting City-located businesses. The Local Preference Ordinance allows the award of additional points during the evaluation process to a local business when allowed by state statute.

A business that meets the definition of Local Business, including having an established place of business performing a substantial part of its operations in the city limits, may be awarded up to a total of 10 points. Businesses that are considered a joint venture may receive up to five (5) discretionary points during the evaluation.

“Your City Council recognizes that local businesses are the lifeblood of our community,” said Mayor Paulette Guajardo. “We want to maximize the amount of resident tax dollars that remain in our local economy.”
