City Awarded $1.6M State Grant
CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – Governor Greg Abbott announced grants totaling $13.1 million from the Texas Military Preparedness Commission’s Defense Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant program.
These grants assist military communities across the state that may be positively or negatively impacted by any future Base Realignment and Closure round. The funds will be invested in infrastructure projects and other initiatives to increase the military value of these installations in Texas and protect jobs in those communities.
The City of Corpus Christi was awarded $1,611,159 for Wastewater Collection System Line and Manhole Replacement at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi (NASCC). The state grant will be combined with Federal and City matching funds for a total project cost of $3,998,159.
The project will replace approximately 4,948 linear feet of severely deteriorating wastewater collection lines with new modern poly/composite collection lines, which are not susceptible to damage and deterioration from the corrosive coastal environments. NASCC also prioritized replacing approximately 19 broken and deteriorating wastewater collection manholes and adding two additional manholes.
According to the Texas Military Preparedness Commission, the combined missions of Naval Air Station Corpus Christi and the Corpus Christi Army Depot have a $4.6 billion annual impact on the Texas economy.
