LAREDO (News Release) - Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents prevented two convicted sex offenders from attempting to enter the U.S. illegally.

The first apprehension occurred during the midafternoon of August 13, when agents assigned to the Laredo South Station arrested a group of 10 undocumented individuals near St. Cecilia Lane and St. Robert Lane in south Laredo. One undocumented individual was identified as Juan Martinez-Martinez, a 33-year-old Mexican national.  Record checks revealed that Martinez-Martinez is a registered sex offender with an extensive criminal history which included a conviction in Arkansas for Sexual Assault in 2009.

The second apprehension occurred during the early afternoon of August 15, when agents from the Hebbronville Station arrested a group of 11 undocumented individuals near the Javelina Wind Farm southwest of Mirando City, Texas.  Within the group was a 42-year-old Mexican national named Israel Hernandez-Valente.  Record checks revealed that Hernandez-Valente was convicted of Indecency with a Child Sexual Contact in 2017.

Both will be prosecuted for their immigration violations and remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service.

These arrests continue to highlight the dangers that illegal immigration poses to our country.  Laredo Sector agents continue to arrest undocumented individuals who have been previously convicted of severe crimes.  Dangerous criminals such as these endanger our communities and show a lack of regard for our country’s laws.
