BISHOP, TEXAS (News Release) - A Bishop police officer who was struck by a fleeing vehicle while deploying tire deflation devices during a vehicle pursuit has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home, according to an update from the Bishop Police Department.

The incident occurred when a vehicle pursuit initiated by another law enforcement agency entered the City of Bishop. Police said the officer was outside his patrol vehicle deploying tire deflation devices when he was struck by the suspect vehicle.

The officer was transported to a hospital for evaluation and treatment. Authorities previously reported he was in stable condition. In an update released this week, the department said the officer has since been discharged and is continuing his recovery at home.

"We are pleased to share that our officer has been released from the hospital and is now recovering at home," the department said in a statement, adding that it is grateful for the medical care he received and the community's continued support.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is leading the investigation into the incident.

Because the case remains under active investigation, officials said no additional information will be released at this time.

The Bishop Police Department also thanked the many agencies and emergency responders who assisted during the incident, including the Nueces County Constables' Offices for Precincts 3 and 5, the Robstown Police Department, the Nueces County Sheriff's Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, EMS personnel, ESD 3, Medic 6 and other responding agencies.

The department expressed appreciation for the community's prayers, encouragement and support as the injured officer continues to recover.
