Arrest Made in Downtown Altercation

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (News Release) - On Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 1:59am, Officers with the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit were conducting bar closing in the area of Starr/Chaparral when they heard multiple gunshots coming from the Peoples St/Chaparral area.
Officers quickly converged on the area and witnesses assisted officers in locating the male who was shooting the gun and detained him for their investigation.
Officers were able to obtain video surveillance and found that the male was involved in a large fight with other bar patrons, ran to his truck that was parked in front of the location, retrieved a handgun and began shooting in the air. Officers searched for victims but did not locate anyone. They were able to locate multiple casings around the truck. During the vehicle inventory, the handgun was located.
47-year-old Charles Burleson was arrested for deadly conduct, unlawful possession of a firearm by felon and an outstanding Municipal Court warrant. After he was medically cleared at a local hospital for injuries he sustained in the fight, he was transported to the City Detention Center for booking.
