Area Development Plan Presented - Padre/Mustang Island

City of Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) –The City Council received a briefing on the Padre/Mustang Island Area Development Plan. The City of Corpus Christi Planning Department and urban planners from Freese and Nichols, Inc., worked with the community to prepare a plan that will guide future development, policy initiatives, programs, and public investments based on a shared vision for the Island.

"Through thoughtful planning and community input, this plan will preserve the Island's rich history while moving progress forward on one of our city's most unique environments," said Mayor Paulette M. Guajardo.

"I want to thank the Island community for their participation and input. These are exciting times," said District 4 Council Member Greg Smith.

To assist in the creation of the Plan, the city collaborated with the Island Strategic Action Committee (ISAC), a committee consisting of community members representing residents, business owners, environmental interests, and other local stakeholders. Through an iterative public engagement process and working with the Island community to gather input and feedback on key issues and opportunities, the planning initiative resulted in an actionable strategy to implement programs and projects that support the public vision for the Island as a safe, family-friendly community that balances residential and local tourism needs while preserving the environmental assets that are unique to the Island.

The City thanks the ISAC and the entire Island community for devoting time in their busy days to participate in creating a truly community-driven Plan.
