American Bank to End Naming Rights
City of Corpus Christi
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (News Release) – After careful consideration, American Bank has decided to pursue new ways of connecting with its clients and the members of the Corpus Christi community. It will end its naming rights sponsorship with the American Bank Center.
“Twenty years ago, the City approached American Bank and asked for our help with the Center’s naming rights,” said Mark Meyer, American Bank’s Market President for South Texas. “Corpus Christi is American Bank’s headquarters, and we saw this as a great opportunity to support our hometown. This partnership served the City and our bank very well for many years and we’ve maintained a great relationship with the City. It’s now time for American Bank to pursue new and different ways to support the Corpus Christi community and our clients.”
"We thank American Bank for proudly sponsoring Corpus Christi’s premier sports, entertainment, and community venue for two decades, City Manager Peter Zanoni said. “While we respect their decision, it is undoubtedly challenging to accept, as American Bank has been a model corporate partner in welcoming millions of people to the City's most prominent venue over the last twenty years. The City, in partnership with American Bank Center management partner OVG/360, will proceed with finding a new naming sponsor. Although the center's name will be changed, the City's objective of having a reputable naming entity remains the same.”
American Bank initially took over naming rights for the American Bank Center in 2004, including sponsorship of the Arena, Selena Auditorium, and the Convention Center at the American Bank Center complex. This initial agreement was eventually extended for another ten years in 2014. The current naming rights agreement with the City of Corpus Christi expires September 30.
