Aerial Fireworks Banned in Nueces County

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (News Release) – The Corpus Christi Fire Department (CCFD) and the Corpus Christi Police Department (CCPD) want to remind everyone that the discharge of fireworks within city limits, including the beach area, is strictly prohibited.

Offenders may incur a fine of up to $2,000 for each opened package of fireworks. If you observe any illegal fireworks being used, please report it to 361-886-COPS (2677). Remember, 911 should not be used for fireworks-related issues.

Nueces County has issued an order that prohibits the use and sale of certain aerial fireworks in the unincorporated areas of the County, including skyrockets with sticks and missiles with fins.

Here are some safety guidelines to follow if you plan to use fireworks outside city limits:

  • Never use fireworks if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

  • Never let young children handle fireworks.

  • Older children should only use them with adult supervision.

  • Never light fireworks indoors.

  • Use fireworks away from people, homes, and combustible materials.

  • Light only one firework at a time and keep a safe distance after igniting.

  • Do not ignite fireworks in a container.

  • Avoid re-lighting or handling malfunctioning fireworks.

  • Soak unused fireworks in water for several hours before disposal.

  • Keep a bucket of water nearby to extinguish any fireworks that fail to go off or in case of fire.
