If you’ve put off getting certain health screenings or you’re a car buff who likes to look under the hood of the latest or vintage models, Del Mar College’s Nurse Education Department and other partners are hosting a Community Health Fair and Car Show on Saturday, March 28, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Health Sciences Complex on the college’s Windward Campus.
DMC organizers have teamed up with the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s Department of Nursing Education, the Coastal Bend chapter of the American Nurses Nephrology Association and the Corpus Christi chapter of the Philipine Nurses Association to provide free health screenings and prevention education ranging from A1C screening to blood pressure and BMI (Body Mass Index) checks to renal disease and Alzheimer’s awareness discussions, among other services. DMC is also joining forces with the Corpus Christi Firefighters Association, along with their signature “pink fire truck,” for a “Fill the Boot” fundraising drive to support their C.A.R.E. (Cancer Awareness and Relief Efforts) initiative to support local firefighters battling cancer.
Funds provide financial assistance to local firefighters receiving cancer treatment as well as efforts focused on cancer research. Participants can even learn a little more about the college’s Welding Applied Technology Program while exploring classic cars on display.. This Community Health Fair and Car Show has a little something for everyone so don’t delay on getting some of those basic screenings for a better picture of your health, help out the CCFA with their fundraising efforts, look under the hood of a few road-worthy classics and learn a little more about your next potential high-demand career path while visiting DMC’s Windward Campus. This event is free and open to the public.
