Eliminating language barriers can make the difference in receiving or providing good healthcare when medical professionals and patients can communicate more effectively. On Friday, Dec. 6, from 9:30 to 10:50 a.m., Del Mar College Spanish Language faculty, along with a professional from the medical field, will hold a FREE Medical Spanish Seminar, “Bridging Communication in Healthcare,” in Room 212 of the Coles Classroom Building on the Heritage Campus.
The seminar will explore the importance of Spanish language skills in the medical field and provide valuable insight into how effective communication can enhance patient care and improve healthcare outcomes in Spanish-speaking communities. Presenters will share their expertise and discuss practical ways to integrate Spanish into medical settings.
Attendees can gain a deeper understanding about why Spanish is essential for healthcare providers working with Spanish-speaking patients as well as learn more about the challenges and rewards when speaking Spanish in the medical field. As part of collaborative dialogue to overcome language barriers, participants will also be encouraged to share personal experiences when Spanish language skills were necessary while receiving medical care. The public is invited to attend; so, whether you serve as a healthcare professional or are simply interested in improving your own language skills in a healthcare context, “Bridging Communication in Healthcare” will be an engaging and informative experience. Deadline to register for limited seating is 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5. Email jmorin@delmar.edu to leave an RSVP.
