World Tuberculosis Awareness Day with the Corpus Christi Ice Rays

City of Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI – (News Release) The Corpus Christi – Nueces County Public Health District’s Tuberculosis Program staff will promote clinical services and distribute giveaways in honor of World TB Day at the Corpus Christi Ice Rays Game on Friday, March 4. The game starts at 7:00 p.m. at the American Bank Center Arena.

World TB Day is observed on March 24 of each year to commemorate the day in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch announced his discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacterium that causes tuberculosis infection and disease. This remarkable breakthrough paved the way for developing methods for the diagnosis and treatment of these health conditions.

The World Health Organization states that an estimated 30,000 people are diagnosed with TB disease, and over 4,100 people die from TB daily – despite it being preventable and treatable. World TB Day is an opportunity to raise public awareness and understanding of the medical, societal, and economic impact of tuberculosis infection and disease.
