Westside Area Development Plan

CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – Corpus Christi City Council received a briefing on the Westside Area Development Plan. The City’s Planning Department and urban planners from Freese and Nichols, Inc., worked with the community to prepare a 20-year plan to guide future development, policy initiatives, programs, and public investments based on a shared vision for the future of the Westside study area.
The planning team created guides for revitalization, culture, health and safety. They also developed several policy initiatives to help achieve their goals over the next 20 years.
The seven policy initiatives include:
Enhance the overall sense of safety through improved programming and environmental design
Improve transportation and drainage infrastructure to create a safe environment and mitigate impacts on the community from flooding
Preserve, promote, and celebrate the local history and culture of the Westside
Improve or expand facilities and programming to support a healthy lifestyle
Support a variety of housing options and affordability levels to encourage homeownership and sustain the existing housing stock
Foster an environment for economic development that attracts new businesses, increases employment and revitalizes or enhances existing commercial and industrial areas
Expand public and private community services and programs

The City Council will hold a public hearing and may act on the draft Plan on December 20 during a regularly scheduled City Council meeting that begins at 11:30 a.m.
The Plan also includes a Future Land Use Map and public investment initiatives.
