Western Reservoir Water Level Expected to Drop

CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – Due to sweltering and dry conditions, the City of Corpus Christi remains in Stage 1 Water Restrictions. In July of 2022, City Manager Peter Zanoni declared Stage 1 Water Restrictions to conserve the available surface water supply.
Roughly half of the regional surface water supply (Choke Canyon Lake and Lake Corpus Christi) continues to experience a reduction in combined capacity. Corpus Christ Water (CCW) experts forecast that the combined capacity of these two surface water sources will drop below 40% this weekend. The levels were 44% one month ago and 39% one year ago. The combined capacity must reach 50% before lifting Stage 1 water restrictions.
The current restrictions apply to all CCW customers and comprise of limiting the use of irrigation systems to only once a week, on the resident’s trash collection day, before 10:00 a.m. and after 6:00 p.m. Citations for violations of the water restrictions could result in fines up to $250 per violation per day. Enforcement will include nights and weekends.
CCW’s goal is to educate their customers on how to conserve water. CCW encourages the community to help each other save water. Therefore, as a mid-summer education program, “WARNING” citations will be issued through the remainder of July and the first week of August. Thereafter, citations will be enforced.
