Wastewater Treatment Plant to Undergo Major Upgrades at Laguna Madre

CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – City Council approved $4,494,321.00 for significant upgrades at the Laguna Madre Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). Approving this contract serves as the first upgrade the plant will receive since 1983.
To improve the area’s wastewater system, upgrades to infrastructure will increase efficiency, provide modernization of treatment and sanitation while improving the WWTP’s overall sustainability.
“Approving project upgrades that are crucial for operations of the Laguna Madre WWTP serves as an integral part of our city’s commitment to move ahead,” stated Water Utilities Chief Operating Officer, Mike Murphy. “These infrastructure upgrades will provide a positive impact toward the quality of life for both residents and visitors in the area for years to come.”
“Your City Council and I continue to move progress forward on wastewater infrastructure projects to ensure our ratepayers are provided continuous superior service,” said Mayor Paulette M. Guajardo.
Located in Flour Bluff, Laguna Madre WWTP is one of six wastewater treatment plants owned and operated by the city. Improving operations, the safety of personnel, and the community’s standard of living is a high priority due to the facility being over thirty years old.
Associated Construction Partner, Ltd., of Boerne, Texas, will begin in June 2021 and is estimated to take twelve months to complete the rehabilitation project.
