Warming Centers in Rual Areas Open

COASTAL BEND, TEXAS (News Release) - With extreme cold weather tonight, Nueces County and surrounding rural communities will provide warming centers for those who need to seek refuge.

In Bishop, the Citizens Planning Committee located at 301 West Main Street, will have their warming center open on Sunday, January 14 through 8 pm on Wednesday, January 17. Blankets and pillows will be handed out at 11 am on Monday, January 14 along with socks and clothing if needed. Hot meals will be served two times pers day along with hot chocolate, juice, and water while the warming center is open.

In Kingsville, the Salvation Army and King's Way Family Church (Dome Church), have partnered to provide shelter from the cold, beginning Sunday, January 14. The church is located at 1727 E Carlos Truan Blvd.

Starting 8 am on Monday, January 15, the Nueces County Robstown Community Center at 415 Mainer Rd will be open continuously through Wednesday at 6 am.

Other county community centers will be open on Tuesday and Wednesday 8 am-5pm to provide a warm place for those who need it include:

Banquete Community Center - 4359 4th street, Banquete

Bishop Community Center - 102 W. Joyce, Bishop

Hilltop Community Center - 11425 Leopard St, Corpus Christi

David Berlanga Community Center - 1513 2nd St, Agua Dulce

Driscoll Community Center - 200 East 6th St, Driscoll

Additionally, the City of Corpus Christi will also have an around the clock warming center at the Corpus Christi Gym located at 3202 Cabaniss Parkway beginning 6pm Monday, January 15 through Wednesday, January 17 at 12 pm.
