CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (News Release) The Texas Brotherhood Ride Cyclists made an afternoon stop on September 23, 2024, in Falfurrias, Texas. The City of Falfurrias Police Department and the Falfurrias Fire Department hosted a 1-day event for 40 riders and 20 personnel at the VFW POST 7634 Lopez-Williams venue.

The Texas Brotherhood Ride Cyclists comprises firefighters, police officers, and EMS personnel who cycle to honor emergency responders who have died in the line of duty. The mission of the ride is to provide support to their families, co-workers, and particularly to the colleagues of the first responders.

This year, they will be commemorating five brothers who made the ultimate sacrifice in 2023. They commenced their journey in South Padre Island, Texas, and cycled to Galveston, Texas, covering over 580 miles in several days, with an average of 80-100 miles each day. They will be honoring brothers from the San Benito PD, Zapata County FD, Forest Bend VFD, and Galveston FD.

The City of Falfurrias Police Department wishes to extend its sincere gratitude to VFW Commander Ricardo Rubio for the exceptional and overwhelming assistance with hospitality accommodations, as well as to the VFW staff. The department is genuinely thankful for the support received. Additionally, we would like to express our appreciation to Celia, Homer Salinas, and Taqueria Jalisco for providing the hot meals, and to the City of Falfurrias for providing indoor games and assistance. The department would also like to thank ALL agencies that assisted with traffic control. If we inadvertently omitted anyone, we wish to convey our sincere thanks for the assistance.

FPD express our gratitude to the personnel department of the Texas Brotherhood Rider Cyclist for granting them the opportunity to offer assistance and hospitality.

“In the presence of smoke and flames, first responders exhibit remarkable resilience as they press forward. Their attire may consist of a uniform, but it is their unwavering character that truly sets them apart. They are the heroes, our rescuers, and our defenders. Despite facing immense pressure to succeed, they serve as a profound source of inspiration for us all. Hope to see everyone again; please ensure your safety and always strive to move forward.” ---Chief, William Barton, II.
