Task Force Uncovers Hidden Cash During Traffic Stop on Highway 77
Kleberg County Attorney’s Specialized Crimes and narcotics Task Force.
RICARDO, TEXAS (News Release) — On July 15, 2025, Special Agents with the South Texas Task Force intercepted a vehicle traveling southbound on Highway 77 near Ricardo, Texas, uncovering concealed cash during a routine traffic stop.
The driver, a McAllen resident en route from Houston, drew the attention of agents after several inconsistencies were noted during questioning. A subsequent search of the vehicle led agents to discover two aftermarket compartments hidden within the vehicle’s seats. Inside the compartments were three bundles of U.S. currency totaling $33,150.
The U.S. Border Patrol Special Investigations Unit (SIU) from the Rio Grande Valley Sector assisted in the investigation.
“This successful seizure highlights the effectiveness of our collaboration with federal partners,” said a social media post for Kleberg County Attorney’s Specialized Crimes and Narcotics Task Force. “We thank the U.S. Border Patrol for their continued support in protecting our communities and strengthening border security.”
The investigation is ongoing.
