TAMUK Student Wins Undergraduate Scholar Award

KINGSVILLE (News Release) - Senior Jamie Ambriz was named winner of the Undergraduate Scholar Award at the 2022 Annual Meeting of the Texas Regional Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine (Texas ACSM).
Ambriz, from Harlingen, joins an elite group as the seventh Texas A&M-Kingsville student to win this award since 2010. Other winners include Alyssa Fick, 2020; Meagan Cantu, 2017; Joel Perez, 2016; Samantha Cantu, 2015; Ricky Balderas, 2011; and Dyana Bullinger, 2010.
Ambriz is an exercise science/pre-physical therapy major. She will graduate in May 2022 and pursue a master’s degree in kinesiology. She eventually plans to attend physical therapy school. Ambriz is in the Honors College and is a McNair Scholar.
As part of the McNair Scholars program, Ambriz also presented a poster about her findings for her McNair project. Her presentation was titled A Comparison of Resistance Exercise to Aerobic Exercise on Cognitive Processing Speed in Young Adults. Her faculty mentor is Dr. Amber Shipherd, associate professor; and exercise science/performance psychology program coordinator.
