TAMUCC Announced Jim Shaw as Men’s Basketball Coach

Texas A&M University Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI (News Release) – After a national search, Jim Shaw was named the fifth head coach in the history of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Men’s Basketball program Wednesday evening and introduced in a press conference today by vice president of intercollegiate athletics Adrian Rodriguez. Shaw previously served as interim head coach since March 18 after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach.

“It’s an honor to be named the head coach of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men’s basketball program. The Island campus is the premier institution in the state of Texas and I cannot wait to build upon our previous athletic success to highlight all that A&M-Corpus Christi has to offer,” Shaw said.

Shaw helped the Islanders win three conference championships in the last two seasons, including the 2022-23 Southland Conference regular season crown and back-to-back SLC Tournament titles. It resulted in consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

Shaw assisted the Islanders in winning their first-ever NCAA Tournament game this past season after beating Southeast Missouri State in the First Four. A&M-Corpus Christi won 13 of its final 15 games and were the first school to win the SLC Tournament in back-to-back years since 1992-94.

“I could not be more pleased with the state of Islanders Basketball and who we have in our next men’s head basketball coach, Jim Shaw. Jim is a man of great integrity with vast coaching knowledge and a rich understanding of what it takes to be successful in our conference and on the national stage. Jim is a winner and is exactly who we need to lead our program into the future,” Rodriguez said.

A San Antonio native, Shaw has spent the last 19 years at the Division I level with stops at Texas Tech, Nebraska, UTEP, Texas State, and Tarleton State.

“Coach Shaw is committed to maintaining the championship culture that has brought The Island University and the entire Coastal Bend community great pride. We are excited to continue building upon our foundation of success to expand not seasons, but decades,” said University President Dr. Kelly M. Miller.
