During the lockdowns, Texans received extra money on their Lone Star cards through the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, also known as food stamps. That extra money ends this month.
The USDA announced an investment of $69 million to address critical food and nutrition security needs of low-income communities enduring the pandemic.
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission will allocate around $2.5 billion in food benefits to all eligible families.
