Suspicious Child Death Investigation in Bishop

BISHOP (News Release) - At approximately 9 pm on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, Bishop Police Department Shift II Patrol Officers and Nueces County Constable Precinct 3 Deputies, were dispatched along with Nueces County E.S.D 3 Fire and Rescue and EMS, to a call regarding an unresponsive child, in the 400 block of E. Henderson Street, in Bishop.

Upon arrival, Officers entered the residence and discovered a 2-year-old child unconscious and not breathing. Responding Officers and Fire personnel immediately began CPR and continued performing lifesaving efforts on the child until EMS arrived on scene.

The child was transported to Driscoll Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

Bishop Police Department Criminal Investigations Division (C.I.D) Detectives responded to the scene and began their initial investigation later that evening.

Despite the efforts of first responders and medical staff, the child remained on life support for several days without any improvements. The child later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly after 5pm on Friday, July 14, 2023.

This investigation is being conducted by the Bishop Police Department with assistance from the Texas Rangers, and in coordination with Child Protective Services (CPS).

This is an active criminal investigation and no additional details will be released at this time. Further information and updates on this case will be provided, when possible.
