Save Our Streets (Squared) Pothole Initiative Update

City of Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI – (News Release) At March 8th regularly scheduled business meeting, City Manager Peter Zanoni provided City Council with an update on a recent initiative to step-up the City’s approach to repairing potholes.

At the Mayor and Council’s direction, staff worked to contract private sector crews from Bay Ltd. and Reytech Inc. to assist the City teams. The City allocated $1.4 million in the Save our Streets Squared program to clear the backlog of 883 pothole repair requests in 45 days.

Over the last 55 days, the Public Works Department partnered with contractors from Bay Limited and Reytec Construction Resources to address potholes on our streets. Since the initiative kicked off on Monday, January 10, approximately 95% of the backlog has been cleared, and nearly 33,702 potholes have been repaired.

“Fifty five days ago, we were filled with the excitement of a project that would catch us up on a backlog of pothole repair work orders. Today we celebrated 95% completion of the Save our Streets Pothole Initiative,” said Mayor Paulette Guajardo. “Streets continue to be the top priority for your City Council.”

With the backlog issue resolved, city teams will be able to respond to citizens’ requests in a more timely manner. The SOS2 partnership is just one more initiative to repair immediate hazards on our roads today. In the Fiscal Year 2022 budget, the City is also investing over $122.3 million into programs to repair or reconstruct the City’s roadways. This is included in the $340 million invested in street construction over the last three years.

To report potholes, residents should call 361-826-CITY (2489) or download the city app.
