Safe Routes to School Project

City of Kingsville

KINGSVILLE (News Release) - The City of Kingsville has posted notice about upcoming construction work on the sidewalks that lead to Harvey Elementary School and Jubilee Kingsville. The project is 100% Federally Funded as part of the TXDOT Safe Routes to School project for non-motorized transportation.

The funding can only be spent on projects that serve pedestrians and bicyclists. The project includes Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant ramps, crosswalks and sidewalk improvements. The work scheduled in this region is also going to include some gutter work to assist with drainage in certain areas.

The city of Kingsville would like to remind the citizens that the projects come from a different funding source and not from the $50 million dollars in grants associated with drainage and wastewater improvements.

Once these projects are under construction and the underground infrastructure improvements are completed, many streets will be improved as part of the grant funds.

The construction work will begin February 27th on East Kenedy Avenue, 20th Street & 19th Street and is scheduled to continue through mid-July 2023.
