Rockport Police Provide Update on Christmas Day Fatal Shooting

ROCKPORT, TEXAS (News Release) - The Rockport Police Department, with the assistance of the Texas Rangers, is providing an update regarding the fatal shooting that occurred on December 25, 2025, at a residence in the 700 block of North Ann Street.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, Alberto Sanchez, 65, of Rockport, has been taken into custody and charged with Murder in connection with the death of his wife, Yanira Magdalena Sanchez, 50, of Rockport.

Officers initially responded to the residence on Christmas Day and located both individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Yanira Sanchez was pronounced deceased at the scene. Alberto Sanchez was found with a gunshot wound to the neck and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. At the time, Alberto Sanchez stated his wife had shot him. Due to the severity of his injuries, detectives were unable to conduct a detailed interview.

During a subsequent interview with investigators, Alberto Sanchez made statements admitting that he shot his wife, Yanira Magdalena Sanchez, and then attempted to shoot himself. Investigators have determined these statements are consistent with evidence collected during the investigation, including scene evidence and the results of the autopsy.

An autopsy conducted by the Fort Bend County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Yanira Sanchez’s death a homicide.

Based on the evidence developed to date, investigators are handling this case as a murder / attempted suicide. There were no witnesses to the shooting, and the couple were the sole occupants of the residence at the time of the incident.

This case remains under active investigation. No additional details will be released at this time.
