Robstown Police Investigating Laser Incident Involving Aircraft

ROBSTOWN, TEXAS (News Release) – The Robstown Police Department is alerting the community about a serious incident that occurred on the evening of April 15, 2025. A helicopter pilot reported that a red laser was pointed directly at his eyes while flying over the area of FM 1889 and County Road 44. The laser strike forced the pilot to abort his mission for safety reasons.

Pointing a laser at an aircraft is not only extremely dangerous—it is a federal offense. Under 18 U.S. Code § 39A, knowingly aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft is a criminal act punishable by law.

In response, the Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS), in coordination with Robstown Police detectives, is actively investigating the incident. CGIS agents will be conducting door-to-door inquiries in the area of FM 1889 near CR 44.
